Help Heart 104.9FM choose its rising star
Issued by: Heart 104.9

On Saturday, 13th September Heart 104.9FM unearthed some of Cape Town's most incredible talent in their auditions for the station's next Radio Star. Five finalists were selected by a board of judges and now the station relies on its listeners and the general public to determine who is going to be their future entertainment correspondent.

“It's going to be a tough task,” says Vernon Adams, Programming Manager for the station. “If we had a choice we would have all five finalists working for the station, however only one lucky lady will get the position of telling Cape Town what's going down in the entertainment industry,” says Adams. Listeners are invited to view the profiles of the finalists on www.1049.fm and to SMS their choice to 39063. The finals will be held at Hanover Street and the winner announced on 27th September.

Claudia Mohr loves everything to do with music. She is an accomplished musician herself, with a special place in her heart for jazz. She describes herself as always being up for a challenge, meeting interesting people, seeing new places, and having new adventures. When she's looking for things familiar, expect to find Claudia sipping margaritas with friends before heading to Hemisphere or Bossa Nova to hit the dancefloor.

Her favourite artists include Jamie Cullum, Bheki Mseleku and John Mayer and her all-time favourite movies are Breakfast at Tiffany's and Good Will Hunting.

Liesl Leonard loves to interact with people - especially people she thinks are “different”. She's a bit different herself: her favourite summer jol would be to skip the clubs in favour of an outdoor event with great people and good music. When she does head indoors, you'd probably catch her at the Bang Bang Club or at Lush in Stellenbosch. But Liesl is less intent on wild partying than on getting a good mix of theatre, fashion, art and music.

Lela Siyengo is an outgoing people's person who believes she has the magical X-factor. She describes herself as a fabulous, funny fashionista. She loves writing and socialising, and sees music as her therapy. She says she's a hard worker - but it seems she's prepared to put effort into playtime as well: for Lela, the full treatment would include cocktails at sundown somewhere in Camps Bay, dinner at Asoka, and then a bit of a boogie at Karma or Hemisphere.

Geri Olwagen loves broadcasting in all its shapes and forms, which has already seen her get a regular slot on Ratanga Radio. She's entered Radio Star with the intention of making a real impression on the local industry. She describes herself as a friendly girl with a great sense of humour. With such a sunny disposition, it's no surprise that Geri likes to spend her summer days on the beach and her evenings at beach bars - although she also enjoys the more urban feel of Tiger Tiger and Bambu. She loves socialising, visiting new places and interviewing new faces.

Jo Godden is a free-spirited, confident, friendly individual who is passionate about her beliefs and what she stands for. She loves a challenge, and enjoys the sense of achievement that comes from succeeding through hard work. She loves to spend summer at braais or on the beach, especially if the day is rounded off with a champagne party at a club afterwards. Geri would be most likely to pick FTV or Barmooda for the party, but she's got a long list of favourite venues.
