Ster-Kinekor Theatres is opening its first cinema multiplex in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho, as part of the company's strategy to expand into Africa. 
The Nu Metro's Emperors Palace cinema complex is reportedly the first to install the Barco range of 3D projectors into all six of the cinemas, making it the first 2K digital multiplex venue in Africa. These join the two 3D projectors at the Nu Metro Galleria cinema complex in KwaZulu-Natal. 
“We urge potential African entrants to get their submissions in to the Durban FilmMart by the closing date of 29 March 2010,” says Peter Rorvik, director of the Durban International Film Festival, “as it provides a perfect entry point for African film-makers to pitch film projects to leading financiers and network with international directors and producers.” 
With over a decade of solid sales experience, Niqui Pereira has been appointed to take over the reigns as Popcorn Cinema Advertising's National Sales Manager. Niqui has spent the last three years being mentored by her predecessor, Debbie Brady who leaves the cinema environment to return to the world of television. 
PARIS: MIPDOC, the international showcase for documentary screenings, has named the five producers to receive recognition at the International Trailblazer Awards at MIPDOC 2010, including the DRC's Djo Tunda Wa Munga. The event runs from 10 - 11 April 2010 at the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, ahead of MIPTV. 
Hot on the heels of adding Nu Metro's new cinemas at Amanzimtoti's Galleria in KwaZulu-Natal and Emperor's Palace in Gauteng's East Rand to their portfolio, Popcorn Cinema Advertising has just confirmed that it will also be representing the national Avalon Group as of 1 March 2010. 
The National Film and Video Foundation's (NFVF) initiative to take 412 Grade 12 learners to see the film Skin was considered a success by audiences. It took kids to the movies in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape as part of its ‘taking cinema to the people' initiative. 
The new character Bokkie made his first appearance at the launch of South African Rugby Union's (SARU) Champion Tour and will become a familiar face around South African rugby as he is used in a host of marketing, communication and commercial activities.
